| The FOSTER READING PROGRAM IT IS THE BELIEF OF THE FOSTER READING PROGRAM that reading to babies and young children can be beneficial for learning, communication skills and emotional development. Reading to children is extremely important in the early years, especially before they enter structured education. Reading to babies strengthens their instinct to listen to sounds and helps them understand those sounds. Reading to older children provides them with new and different experiences and expands the world and the horizons around them. Reading to babies and young children provides the opportunity for bonding and shared time with them. Reading to babies and young children gives them a basis to learn to read for themselves and fosters the love of reading in their later years. Some of the benefits of reading to babies and young children are: 1. Helps them learn to hear sounds and turn them into language 2. Encourages the focus on shapes and colors 3. Develops eye muscles and sight coordination 4. Introduces them to new things and places 5. Provides closeness and bonding Foster parents sometimes have quick turnover times with the children they keep and are not always provided the opportunity to purchase age appropriate books for each child. The FOSTER READING PROGRAM wants to help fill the gap by providing as many new and/or used children’s books to foster parents throughout the United States. The FOSTER READING PROGRAM is accepting the donations of new and/or used children’s books (with appropriate content) For information on where to send books donations &/or to provide names of possible recipients, email: fosterreadingprogram@yahoo.com |
